This year, the DECA team at Eastview High School in Apple Valley receives the Special Recognition Award for its public relations campaign designed to promote participation at the Point of Impact Teen Driver Safety Parent Awareness classes held across Minnesota. The team included DECA mentor Linda Dolan and students Kendall Qauley, Logan Engst, and Joel Iverson.
The team created an innovative public relations campaign focused on getting teens to ask their parents to attend the class. The toolkit the team developed includes a video PSA, scripts for school announcements, text message templates, social media messages, poster templates, and a press release.
For its work on this project, the team won first place in the DECA State Competition and qualified to compete at the International Competition in Orlando, FL. The team is also working with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety and Minnesota Safety Council to distribute toolkit materials to driver educators around the state.
