The Key Club at Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls is a group of forward-thinking, caring youth striving to make a positive impact on fellow students, the City of Thief River Falls, and the surrounding communities and schools. Club members have proven this by focusing on a traffic safety topic—such as seat belt use, impaired driving, and distracted driving—for one week each April for the past six years. They worked with the Pennington County TZD Coalition and the Minnesota State Patrol to bring in crashed vehicles, hold mock crashes, and place traffic safety messages and car parts from actual crashes in their school hallways.
Last March, the Key Club held the first TZD Teen Conference, following a similar format as the statewide TZD Conference. In addition, group members have attended the Northwest Minnesota TZD regional workshop every year for the past five years. This group of youth are very passionate about helping others and keeping others safe by spreading the traffic safety message.
